English grammar for kids: present continuous tic-tac-toe games

how to play

This is a grid game adapted from Noughts and Crosses, designed for 2 players (or teams). Your aim is to make a line of three: horizontally, diagonally or vertically.

  • When you choose a square, you have to complete a task. For example, make a positive sentence: Top left: I, drink. I am drinking tea.
  • If you are right, place your sun or cloud marker on the game board.
  • If you are wrong, it is the other team's turn.
  • The first team to make a line of three, wins the game.

preparation

  • Print out a game board and markers. Laminate for future use.
  • Cut out the individual markers (optional for the game, use buttons or pawns instead). Learn more how to prepare our one-sided cards (pdf).
  • Before playing the game revise or pre-teach the names of all the items on the game boards.
